About This Event

Exhibition Overview:

BIRD BODY features 20 original wooden paintings and sculptures by Charles Allis Artist-in-Residence, Hattie Grimm. This body of work draws inspiration from the migratory wisdom of birds and our own animal bodies—reminding us that our instincts, emotions, and physical sensations carry deep truths. Whether it’s the warmth of joy or the sting of grief, Grimm invites viewers to be receptive to the messages carried in the body.

This exhibition opening includes refreshments, community conversation, and the opportunity to meet the artist and explore her deeply personal and poetic work.

Join us for an evening of visual storytelling and connection with Artist-in-Residence Hattie Grimm as she debuts 20 new wooden works that explore the quiet truths of the body. Guests are invited to participate in two interactive activities: draw your own bird and share your personal bird story.

About the Artist:

Hattie Grimm is an artist and educator based in Wisconsin. Through sculpture and painting, she explores the aliveness of emotion, sensation, and memory. With a BA in Art Education from UW-Madison, she has taught and facilitated workshops across the state—including the Chazen Museum of Art, MOWA, and UWM. Her practice blends reflection, movement, and making to create rituals of understanding and connection.

Parking

Street parking is available near the museum, but for a smoother experience, we recommend using rideshare services like Lyft or Uber.

We've also partnered with CVS (1650 N. Farwell Ave) to offer convenient parking for our guests. You may park in the spaces at the back of the CVS lot. Please avoid parking near the store entrance to keep those spaces open for CVS customers.
